Barry McVay's FEDERAL CONTRACTS DISPATCH

DATE: April 13, 2000

FROM: Barry McVay, CPCM

SUBJECT: Federal Procurement Data Center Offers DVD-ROM Product

SOURCE: General Services Administration News Release, April 7, 2000

AGENCIES: General Services Administration (GSA), Federal Procurement Data Center (FPDC)

ACTION: Announcement

SYNOPSIS: The FPDC is offering its first DVD-ROM product -- the historical federal procurement database for Fiscal Years 1990 through 1999. It costs $2,000.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The data FPDC is putting on the DVD-ROM is obtained from each agency from the Standard Form 279, Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) --Individual Contract Action Report, or similar form, which is required for each contract action of $25,000 or more. For more on the FPDS, see Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 4.602, Federal Procurement Data System.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: Eleni Martin, 202-501-1231, or for ordering information, contact Jerry Varner, 202-401-8135.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The 10-year FPDC database includes all contract actions valued at $25,000 or more that were awarded by executive departments and agencies -- nearly four million contract actions worth approximately $1.6 trillion. The database includes the product or service, address of the buying office, name of the vendor, contract expiration data, location of performance -- all the information required to be gathered and submitted on the SF 279.

According to FPDC, "the data can be loaded into the user's own database to be summarized or viewed as needed. The FPDC data can be valuable in analyzing long term market and product trends. Vendors interested in pursuing federal contracts are able to prioritize and pursue the most promising opportunities. Organizations wishing to evaluate federal purchases by geographic area, product, or other criteria have complete control over the information to perform their analysis. The new DVD-ROM format allows a convenient and less expensive way to obtain and store this information. The DVD-ROM contains almost 4 gigabytes of data. The DVD-ROM eliminates transfer and storage of multiple CD-ROMs."

In addition to the DVD-ROM, FPDC is also offering both quarterly and annual editions of the Federal procurement database on a downloadable CD-ROM. The CD-ROM costs $150 quarterly or $500 annually.

Orders for the DVD-ROM and CD-ROM versions may be faxed to 202-401-1546. For more information, contact Jerry Varner at 202-401-8135.
